Hair

time for the most important part for scene kids in the 2000s, THE HAIR. of course that doesnt mean u cant be scene/emo without the hair! curly heads, bald people, and EVEN hijabis CAN be scene, it doesnt matter what ethnicity, religion, skin color, or age your are, just definitely stay safe!

Step 1: Straightening

first, get a hair straightener and straighten your hair, dont use heat protectant or youre a p0ser!! (JK, use as much heat protectant as u want) if ur parents dont let u straighten or u cannot straighten for some reason, use moisturizing hair cream. I use Vatika mosturizing hair cream, but u can use ANY hair cream that makes your hair look semi-straight. if you cant use that either, skip this whole straight hair thingy and style your natural hair!

Step 2: Cutting The Hair

mostly watch YouTube tutorials and look at pics of scene queens/kings/royals for inspiration!! scene hair considers of mostly the bangs, choppy layers, and its teased/more volumized from the top and thinner on the bottom.

here are some tutorials that might help:

Teasing

want that poofy hair? alright im here to help you. you basically grab a teasing comb (or hairbrush or even normal comb, ive seen scene/emo royals tease their hair with brushes) and backcomb the hair, aka grab a strand of hair and comb from the end to the root. hairspray till u die from the fumes (dont die tho, definitely finish the whole bottle on ur hair JK, use as much as u need but not too much that u spend $10 everytime u tease ur hair) for curly heads its even easier, basically just poof your hair by making it messy and tada!

here are some videos:

Bleaching & Dying

many scene/emo kids love to bleach their and dye it crazy colors (or even normal hair colors). many scene kings/queens/royals in the 2000s dyed their hair green, blue, purple, pink, etc, or just bleached. feel free to experiment with your hair and see whats best for you, not everyone like the same stuff! u could even do multiple colors, coontails, or half-half, ANYTHING that suits u! u dont have to bleach/dye your hair to be scene or emo tho.

Extensions

extensions are definitely super cute, and scene royals used to clip them in or glue them, like amber katelyn beale for example! she recommended using real hair extensions but u can also use fake hair. its still YOUR hair tho because the extensions are yours, haha..u can also dye them or draw on them with markers if youre allowed to dye

Makeup

this is obviously optional, you do NOT need makeup to be emo or scene and you are already very pretty/handsome!! makeup is for expressing yourself not to look prettier, YOU ARE ALREADY STUNNING

Eyeliner

eyeliner is the most important part of emo/scene makeup,..if you wear emo/scene makeup you HAVE to wear eyeliner or else youre a poser (just kidding, you can still wear other types of makeup and not wear eyeliner and youre still not a poser <3). just put black eyeliner on your lash line and around your eye and thicken as much as you want and youre done babes.

tutorial:

Eyeshadow

scene/emo kids also like to put eyeshadow, mostly a lot of dark eyeshadow along with eyeliner, smudged and emo, but some scene kids also put on colorful eyeshadow, its your choice!

Mascara

since emo/scene makeup focuses on the eyes, some people like to put mascara to emphasize their lashes too

Lipstick

altho lipstick isnt as common among emo/scene kids, some scene kids put foundation on their lips to make them look pale & some put light lipstick. some even put darker lipstick colors and lip liner, some go with really dark red or black

Foundation/Concealer

i personally dont recommend using foundation or concealer as you are already pretty enough, but if you really wanted to, you can, there is no rule telling you you will be a poser if you wear foundation (many scene/emo kids wear foundation or concealer). some emo kids like to wear very pale foundation to look like a ghost, you can do that too!

Fashion

time to dress up,. scene kids in the 2000s mostly focused on the hair, but hey, some cant do the hair for some reason and some want to go maximalist and do all, it depends on your preference after all

T-Shirts/Tank Tops/Sweaters/Etc

Graphic Tees

shirts with cartoons work well, even batman shirts & princess tees. it doesnt matter. most those tees are found in the kids section (get the largest size, you dont want it too tight on you, unless you're a kid ofc!) but u might find in thrift stores too. you could also get a plain tee and paint on it with fabric paint or acrylic paint with fabric medium., diy-ing and thrifting are the most ethical

yes all the following tees are scene, as long as something is slightly colorful and follows the scene silhouette it can be scene, afterall, it depends on HOW YOU STYLE IT, not how it looks. and no, you do NOT have to look like this everyday. in fact, early scene kids looked like this., and no, u do NOT have to dress scene or emo 24/7

Striped Tees/Tank Tops

many scene/emo kids wear striped tees or tank tops. Black and white stripes, black and red, or even pink and blue straps could work! any colorful or even black tank top could work as scene/emo if you style it right

Band Tees

this is definitely very scene/emo, and yes any band tees could work, like an evanescence or nirvana band tee, these arent emo or scene bands but they could look scene. and you dont have to spend all your money or brand new band tees from hot topic or their official sites, you can also diy or thrift them for way cheaper!,,

Hoodies/Blouses/Sweaters

black or colorful hoodie work well, cartoon hoodies (like a GIR from invader zim hoodie) works well. plaid blouses/sweaters & even black or colorful blouses, many emo/scene kids in the 2000s wore clothes that werent even alternative and looked scene because they had the hair. after all it depends on your preference. striped jackets/blouses/etc work well too.

Pants/Skirts/Tights/Etc

Pants

dont go too fancy and buy those black/green or black/pink/etc pants with chains and stuff from hot topic, they are not scene, they are more popular among scenecore & just alternative in general people. scene/emo kids in the 2000s never wore this style. tight (or just not baggy, since some people cant tolerate skinny jeans) jeans, any color works just fine. colorful leggings, leopard/zebra print leggings, etc. even just normal black or colorful pants will work just fine, as long as theyre not super fancy.

Skirts/Tutus

these are very popular among scene royals. tutus obviously.. are the very scene thing. any skirt will work just fine too, jeans skirts, plaid skirts, etc. skirts are very scene, and anyone can wear them. mostly short skirts tho. you can wear skinny jeans, jeggings, or tights underneath.

Tights/Stockings/Leg Warmers

tights are indeed very popular among scene royals too, the ripped tights, fishnets, or even just normal tights. striped tights of course, leopard/zebra print tights, mostly any type of tights really. striped stockings or any stockings will work fine, those thing knee high socks also work especially the black ones. fluffy leg warmers are very cute too, you can diy your own or thrift!

Accesories

Gloves/Arm Warmers/Etc

these are arguably very popular around the 2000s with funny memes and utube shorts about the cutting gloves into fingerless means theyre on their way to rawr xd. you are definitely very emo/scene if you grab your normal gloves and cut them fingerless (dont buy fingerless gloves, they make you a poser, JK). fingerless gloves dont have to be fancy tho and if you really want to make them fancier, add a few studs or even draw on them. (sharpie works too) heck u could even make your own studs from toothpaste tubes/monster cans

striped arm warmers or fishnet are also very emo/scene if you style them with a good outfit. you could also make your own from socks and even decorate them. like someone made gir themed fongerless gloves with some socks, a needle, and thread. wearing a sleeve shirt under a tshirt in winter (or if youre a hijabi) is also scene/emo, especially if the shirt is striped/leopard print/zebra print/etc

Belts

of course studded belts, i dont have to say!!! checkered studded belts, normal studded belts, or even the ones with circles and holes work well! you dont need to buy the most expensive studded belt from hot topic for 30$, you can always thrift or diy. get some plastic, monster cans/toothpaste tubes, cut your own studs from them, glue them on the plastic, cut the shape of a belt into the plastic, and tada!, youre done? 100% diy, recycling and definitely ethical. you can also get leather and glue the studs on, or, get real studs and make them actually studded belts

Jewelry

Necklaces

among scene/emo culture, diamond, hello kitty, brass knuckle, blade, heart, lock, etc charms are very popular and many scene kids wear them. any "childish" necklaces work, honestly tho, any necklace will look kinda scene & it works. you can also wear chokers like tattoo chokers etc.

Bracelets

these were very popular in the 2000s. i ♥︎ boobies bracelet in many different colors, or just rubber bracelets in general. rubber band bracelets too ofc. also the jelly bracelets that everyone hated and thought meant something bad or whatever (i dont know whats behind them.?) honestly plastic/childish bracelets will work very well too, and band loom bracelets (you can get any rubber hair bands and make bracelets from them).

Rings

meh, theres not really scene or emo rings, just wear what you have! many scene kids wore a bunch of chunky rings and called it a day, mostly silver/black colored rings. colorful rings work too, gold not very common but theres no rule saying if you wear gold rings youre a poser!

Kandi

this one is very creative since you can diy it. just buy beads (pony beads are the most common type of beads used for kandi but colorful round beads work too) and string and you have endless choices. kandi singles and necklaces were very popular in the 2000s (and still are) along with star charms, but you can make all sorts of charms! you can also make cuffs, flowers cuffs, etc, and even rotators. kandi opens infinite possibilities and choices, very creative

Hair Pins/Bows/Headbands

they were very VERY popular in the 2000s. every scene queen/royal had bows. theyre also very cheap and easy to make. hair pins can also hold your hair or just be worn for style. any hair pin really works but the childish and colorful ones are better. headbands are also popular.we ek
